Consultant / Senior Consultant – Policy & Public Affairs

Henham Strategy is a strategic consultancy working across policy, public affairs, and economics. We combine rigorous analysis, strategic insight and deep political and stakeholder networks to help clients navigate complexity and achieve real-world impact.

We work with public sector bodies, trade associations, charities and private sector organisations, with particular expertise in areas including energy & net zero, technology & innovation, local growth, housing & the built environment and trade & investment.

The role

We are looking for one or more new hires at either Consultant or Senior Consultant level with policy and / or public affairs experience to join our London based team.

This is a varied role suited to someone who enjoys operating at the intersection of policy development and political engagement. You will lead or support our policy development work the and / or public affairs activity, advising clients on how to navigate political, stakeholder and policy environments.

You will act as a trusted adviser for clients, manage delivery across projects, contribute policy and sector expertise, and support junior colleagues. You will also be asked to play a role in business development and the continued growth of the company.

Key responsibilities

Client delivery might include:
Supporting the day-to-day delivery of policy and / or public affairs projects, ensuring outputs are timely, high-quality and aligned with client objectives
Working with clients to develop policy recommendations, including building compelling cases for government and decisionmakers
Advising clients on public affairs strategy and tactical delivery, ensuring activity supports broader policy aims
Translating complex political, policy and strategic issues into clear, persuasive advice and written outputs
Maintaining a strong understanding of political and policy developments relevant to client sectors
Confidently representing Henham at external events  
Applying strong analytical thinking to interpret complex information, identify trends and develop actionable insights
Producing high-quality written materials, including reports, briefings, consultation responses and strategy documents
Setting the standard for written outputs and quality, supporting and guiding junior colleagues

Team and business contribution:
Mentoring junior team members, delegating effectively and supporting their development
Contributing to new business activity, including responding to opportunities, supporting proposals and networking
Leveraging and growing your professional networks to the benefit of clients and the business
Collaborating across the team, contributing to a culture of learning, clarity and continuous improvement
Demonstrating commercial awareness, balancing excellent client service with effective use of time and resources  

About you

Ideally, we are looking for someone who:
Has strong experience in a policy focused and/or public affairs consulting environment (or a closely related in-house role)
Brings a genuine interest in public policy, politics and public affairs, and understands how policy is shaped and influenced
Is confident acting as a trusted adviser to clients and engaging with senior stakeholders
Communicates clearly and persuasively across written and verbal formats
Brings strong analytical, organisational and project management skills
Is intellectually curious, with a genuine interest in learning about new sectors, policy areas and ways of working
Is comfortable using AI tools for research and analysis
Thrives in a fast-paced environment and can manage multiple priorities without compromising on quality
Enjoys supporting and developing colleagues and working collaboratively as part of a team
Is proactive in building networks and identifying opportunities for growth

Indicatively, candidates are likely to have around 3–6 years’ relevant experience, though we are open to a range of backgrounds where skills and approach are the right fit.

Salary  

£40,000-£55,000 per annum depending on experience (not including bonus)
